Chemistry Department Scholarships
The Chemistry Department offers seven distinct scholarships, targeting various groups of Humboldt Chemistry majors. By filling out a single application, you will be considered for each of the scholarships:
- Charles and Judith Ferguson Dvorak Endowment – Awarded to a Chemistry major or a secondary teaching credential with a chemistry major student who demonstrates financial need for scholarship assistance as determined by the FAFSA.
- Humboldt Chemistry Research Scholarship – The Humboldt Chemistry Research Scholarship was established to honor founding faculty within their specialties in the Department of Chemistry at Humboldt State University, to support faculty interest in undergraduate research, and to promote and encourage undergraduate chemistry research by providing financial support to capable students in this field. Scholarships shall be awarded according to and named after the honored founding chemistry faculty and their respective fields: Clark Organic Chemistry Scholar (Thomas J. Clark), Hanson Physical Chemistry Scholar (Mervin P. Hanson), Russell Inorganic Chemistry Scholar (John B. Russell), Wallace Biochemistry Scholar (Robert A. Wallace), or Weiss Analytical Chemistry Scholar (Roger J. Weiss). Awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior Chemistry student. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Students can be awarded the scholarship up to two times.
- Humboldt Chemistry Scholarship – Awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior Chemistry student. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Students can be awarded the scholarship up to two times.
- Larry Westmoreland Honored Professor Scholarship in honor of Dr. Jack Russell – The purpose of this scholarship is to honor and memorialize professors who were important to the donor’s Humboldt academic experience and to preserve the memory of these honored professors at Cal Poly Humboldt. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate majoring in Chemistry. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or Dream application.
- Lorensen Chemistry – This scholarship is intended for a student pursuing a chemistry or biochemistry degree. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to those pursuing a career in a science field, with a medical emphasis.
- Richard Paselk Biochemistry/ Biophysics Scholarship – The purpose of this scholarship is to award students pursuing a course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly Humboldt. Students must be currently engaged in an approved undergraduate research project with an Humboldt Chemistry faculty member. Students must be enrolled full-time, be at least a sophomore, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in required major courses.
Chemistry Department scholarship recipients will remain students in good academic standing throughout the year and make consistent progress toward graduation. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding. Upload all requested materials to be considered for all seven scholarships.
