Nursing Department Scholarships

The Nursing Department has 15 scholarships for which students can apply, targeting various fields and emphasis of practice for Humboldt Nursing majors. Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding and will ultimately determine those scholarships that are awarded each year. By filling out a single application, you will be considered for each of the scholarships:

  • Beatrice Peckham Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 1995. This is awarded to a Nursing major with a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA who will be a junior or senior level student in the year of the award.
  • Deborah Cline Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in Nursing. The family of Deborah Cline established the scholarship in her memory. Deborah graduated from Humboldt with a BS in Nursing in 1995. She was a professional nurse and spent much of her career in public health nursing. Successful applicants will have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better and have demonstrated financial need by completing a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.
  • Diana Pettit Berman Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who have demonstrated an interest in and commitment to serve those economically and/ or socially disadvantaged.
  • Geriatric Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who have demonstrated an interest in Geriatric Nursing and maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Janice Bond Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Lillian E. Woodward Scholarship: This scholarship scholarship is awarded to full-time students pursuing a degree in Nursing. Applicants must have at least 2 semesters of coursework for degree completion and a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Phyllis Poska: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Robin Smith, RN, BSN Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. The Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial Scholarship was established to honor and memorialize Eden Rubio Furgatch, a 1983 graduate of Humboldt’s Nursing program. Eden was passionate about her family, finances, and food. Eating healthy and feeding others brought her great joy. And helping educate other women about taking control of their financial lives was a personal passion of hers. Eden was strong, she was brave, she was a fighter to the very end. Eden did not lose her 20-year battle with cancer, instead her body simply couldn’t keep up with her drive. Created in 2021, the Eden Rubio Furgatch Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by her husband, Jacob Furgatch, to support students attending Humboldt to pursue a degree in Nursing.
  • Eva Janson: The purpose of the fund is to support students enrolled in the Humboldt Nursing program who hope to practice in Humboldt County in the future as well as to recognize Eva Janson for her over 30 years of service to the local community as a certified nurse-midwife.
  • Roberta Luskin-Hawk: The purpose of the fund is to support students enrolled in the Humboldt Nursing program who hope to practice in Humboldt County.
  • Diana McGurk Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • The Shirley and Palmer Jensen Memorial: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Joseph and Barbara Bania: This scholarship is awarded to Nursing students who maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.
  • Mad River Community Hospital Volunteers: This scholarship is awarded to students majoring int eh RN-BSN Nursing program. Preference given to those who graduated from a Humboldt County High School and earned an AS degree in Nursing from College of the Redwoods. Preference to those committed to working and living and Humboldt County.
  • Carol Rene Hughes Nursing: This scholarship is awarded to students majoring int eh RN-BSN Nursing program.
  • Donahue Joseph Scholarship Fund: The purpose of the Fund is to support students studying in the Cal Poly Humboldt nursing program, and in the future, when degree is established in health advocacy.
  • Terry L. Stogdell Scholarship- This scholarship is awarded in support of a student who is pursuing a career with a focus in public health. Students pursuing a degree in Psychology, Nursing, Chemistry, Biology, Kinesiology, or Biochemistry are eligible to apply. Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application. Preference will be given to those students who have had to overcome or are coping with a health challenge. ( Please note: This scholarship does require you to submit a separation application in order to be considered. Please submit the Terry L. Stopgdell application separately in the system accordingly.)

Nursing Department scholarship recipients will remain a student in good academic standing throughout the year and make consistent progress toward graduation. Answer all questions to be considered for these scholarships.
