Funded by Mark B. Rhea before his passing to help Environmental Science & Management (ESM) support students. Applicants must describe their interest and willingness for learning opportunities under the direction of an Environmental Science & Management (EMS) faculty member. Must be continuing Environmental Science & Management (ESM) major (not minor) or in Environmental Science & Management (ESM) home Department as a continuing (not incoming) NR graduate student (see eligibility criteria below). Amounts and numbers of scholarships are estimates, dependent on funding.

- Recipients of scholarship funds must meet the following requirements:
- Must be continuing ESM major (not minor) or in ESM home Dept as a continuing (not incoming) NR graduate student
- Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least 12 units at HSU, graduate applicants must have completed at least 6 units at HSU as grad students
- Undergraduate must currently have completed 45 or more earned units, including transfer units (this is to ensure at least Junior-level standing)
- Demonstrates strong potential to work well with a faculty mentor (as indicated by interest, passion, communication skills, etc.)
